Solmiro vs HomeWizard vs the free vendor apps
All three can show you today’s production. They differ in who notices when something is wrong: you, or the service.
| Capability | Solmiro (€2.50/mo, €30/y) | HomeWizard Energy+ (€11.95/y) | Vendor apps (free) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected yield from the weather on your roof | Yes: the sunlight on your panels, corrected for temperature and tuned to your own history | Not listed | Not in their alert documentation. Enphase: only a threshold your installer sets. |
| Proactive alerts when production drops | Yes, by e-mail with what to check | Basic notifications | Mostly up to your installer. SolarEdge e-mails you only with the installer’s permission; Enphase waits until 10 % of microinverters, or more than one, have been down for 5 days; ShinePhone documents none. |
| Alert when the data stops arriving | Yes: a silent inverter or broken cloud link is itself an alert | Not listed | SolarEdge: by e-mail only with your installer’s permission. Enphase: a warning inside the app. Growatt: only in the ShineServer web portal. |
| Independent of the manufacturer | Yes | Yes | No |
| Multi-brand (SolarEdge, Growatt, more) | Yes | Yes, with a broader brand list today | Own brand only |
| Tell us if an alert was wrong | Yes, one click on every alert | Not listed | Not in the documentation of any of the three |
| Cancel online, EU consumer terms | Yes — 14-day withdrawal button, pro-rata refunds | Yes | n/a |
Prices and features as published by each company, September 2026.
Where the vendor column and the contract prices come from
- SolarEdge, “Alerts in the Monitoring Platform”, application note v1.4, August 2023: “Access to the actions described in the Alert Profiles chapter is enabled only to users in the account with the roles of account manager or account admin”; “to receive an alert notification by email, the system owner must have permission to receive alert notifications”; e-mail is the only channel the document describes for reaching you. (Archived copy; the live file refuses direct requests.)
- Enphase, “Understanding Microinverter Not Reporting and production issue alerts”: a warning at one microinverter not reporting for 12 daylight hours; notification at 10 % of microinverters for 5 consecutive days, or at more than one microinverter producing nothing for five days; “System production has dropped below the threshold set by the installer”; and Enphase’s own eleven-panel worked example.
- Enphase, “If a module is not producing it is shown as blacked out — why didn’t I receive an alert email?”: a production issue is declared when “site production falls below the Production Threshold (if one has been set)”, and “per-panel alert notifications are one of the benefits of the Enphase Installer Portal”.
- Enphase, “Fixing the Gateway Not Reporting system error”: “If your gateway loses its internet connection, an error notification appears in the Enphase App, showing a Gateway Not Reporting alert.” The article names no other channel.
- Growatt, ShineServer user manual §7.5.2: “three options which can be checked, receive alerts, receiving daily reports, monthly reports received”, “associated with the mailbox on your station set up”. The manual does not state whether those boxes start ticked. The ShinePhone App Store listing (id 669936054) describes monitoring, device management and control, and names no alerting.
- HomeWizard, the published Energy+ feature list (solar-panel coupling, notifications for unusual consumption, configurable notifications, data export, smart tasks, charts, unlimited storage), €11.95 a year or €0.99 a month. “Not listed” in the table means not in this list.
- Saman Groep, Service en onderhoud zonnepanelen: maintenance contract ‘vanaf 8,- per maand, incl. btw’ (‘onderhoud elke 2 jaar’); Remote Support ‘vanaf 2,95 per maand’ (‘mogelijk voor vrijwel alle merken’); SunData ‘vanaf 3,30 per maand’ plus ‘eenmalig € 375 installatiekosten’. Read 7 September 2026.
- Zonsimpel, Onderhoud: Budget subscription €14.98–€32.25 a month incl. VAT, Zorgeloos subscription €32.97–€50.38 a month, both with a three-year minimum term, yearly cleaning and one ‘Zonnestroom Monitoring & Analyse’ a year. Read 7 September 2026.
- Eco Solar Energy, Onderhoudsabonnement: ‘€ 24,95 per maand’, ‘€ 249,95 per jaar (incl. btw)’, contracts of two, three or five years, yearly inspection and cleaning, ‘monitoring van prestaties’, ‘voorrang bij storingen’. Read 7 September 2026.
Where the others win
-
HomeWizard Energy+ is cheaper (€11.95/y) and supports more inverter brands today. If you want a low-cost multi-brand dashboard and are happy to check it yourself, it is a fine product.
-
The vendor apps are free and show the most device detail (per-panel views, firmware). If you enjoy checking your app regularly, you may not need anyone watching for you.
And the installer’s service contract?
If you already pay your installer for a service contract, here is how it compares with Solmiro. The prices come from three Dutch installers that publish theirs.
| Installer service contract | Solmiro | |
|---|---|---|
| What it costs | From €8 a month for a visit every two years, up to €50 a month with yearly cleaning. Monitoring alone from €2.95 a month. | The account, the connection and your last 30 days of history cost nothing. Then €1 for the first 14 days and €2.50 a month, billed yearly (€30 incl. VAT), everything included. |
| The term | Two to five years at Eco Solar Energy, three years at Zonsimpel, not stated at Saman. | Cancel online at any time after the first year; 14-day right of withdrawal. |
| What you get there and not from us | A technician: inspection, cleaning, travel and labour covered up to a limit, priority in the repair queue. | Nothing on the roof. We detect the problem and tell you; the repair is yours to arrange. |
| What you get from us and not there | Not in their published offers. | A daily check against the weather over your roof; an e-mail when the data stops arriving as well as when production drops; and the guarantee: if your inverter completely stops producing and we do not e-mail you within 48 hours of the end of that day, your next year is free. |
| When it stops | Ends if the installer stops trading. | Independent of installer and manufacturer; works with your own login. |
If you have an installer you trust and want someone on the roof, their contract is the better product. If what you mainly want is to be told, in writing and within a day or two, Solmiro is the cheaper one.
The one-line difference
The others show you numbers when you look. Solmiro checks your system every day against the weather over your roof and e-mails you when something is wrong, so you do not have to look.
